From nobot at hushmail.com Tue Oct 9 05:30:47 2007 From: nobot at hushmail.com (nobot@hushmail.com) Date: Tue Oct 9 05:31:04 2007 Subject: [Rfdump] apprentice level rfid geek needs your help... Message-ID: <20071009053048.BF898DA81F@mailserver7.hushmail.com> Hi All, I am fairly new to the world of RFID and this is my first post. But I would like to get up and running as soon as possible. My first concern is to get a good reader/writer. But I must admit to being a little bit confused about the different standards and tags. However my primary interest is ISO 15693 and the tags Tag-It from TI. I found one reader/writer that claims to support the different variations of Tag-It (Standard, Pro, Plus). The DLP-RFID1 USB RFID Reader/Writer. http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/DLP-RFID1.htm - Does any of you guys have any actual experience using this hardware with rfdump? - If not, can you tell me any reason why It shouldn't work? - If it does not work with rfdump "out-of-the-box", can you tell me an estimate of the programming work required? In the summary of this devices' capabilities It is stated that "It has the ability to both read and write up to 256 bytes of data in addition to reading the unique identifier (UID" The part where it says it can "read" the UID got me confused. - Can it be the case that the device itself prevents writing the UID? - I was under the impression that you could read/write all the data on the card (unless some fields were made read-only in the actual tag). And not that a reader/writer would impose restrictions "on its own"? I need a device since I am writing my master thesis about rfid security(especially regarding Tag-It tags), and would like to do some experimenting instead of just writing about it. So please, let me know if you have found this device to be satisfying/crappy. And also if you can recommend another reader/writer that would fit my needs. (no serial port on my laptop btw.) So, if you were in Excel and a cell is clicked on, reading a barcode will give you the decoded results automatically in that cell. Simple as that. It is simple, just pass the USB Port to the VMWare, the Image contains a USB-Serial Drivers, converting the Reader USB Port back to an serial port inside the Linux RFDump Image. You only have to look at the boot messages, what will be the tty, normaly /dev/ttyusb0 or similar, just change it to this port via GUI and that's it. >> >> Thanks, >> >> Jen King >> >> UC Berkeley > > -- Gruss Lukas Grunwald aka REG lg1 http://www.dn-systems.de mail: l.grunwald@dn-systems.de DN-Systems Enterprise Internet Solutions GmbH Hornemannstr. 11 31137 Hildesheim, Germany Tel. +49-5121-28989-0 Fax. +49-5121-28989-11 21 Sunrise Ct, S.San Francisco, CA 94080, USA Tel. +1-650-472-2512 Mob. +1-650-430-1219 Handelsregister HRB-3213 Amtsgericht Hildesheim Gesch?ftsf?hrer Lukas Grunwald -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... That will not work with RFDump, you need to access the ISO Comamnd-Set a ISO 15693 or 14443 Tag works more like a EEPROM with Pages, Read and Write-Conditions, it has nothing to do with Barcodes, even the Low Frequency Tags have Read/Write Memory .-) > > Here is a link at our website for scanners or input devices: > http://www.product-catalog.com/vendorsearchlist.cfm?BAToken=rfidsales > > Please let me know if you need any additional help, > > Patrick Livovich > President > Multi Tech Services, Inc. > Valparaiso, IN 46383 > Phone: (219) 477-2050 > www.rfidsalesonline.com > Fax: (219) 472-1796 > Email: pat.livovich@mtsrfid.com > > Confidentiality Notice: This email and any attachments are for the > exclusive and confidential use of the intended recipient and may > contain privileged and confidential information.
