Hello Stefan,

you can test the ACG Readers with a standard (serial) terminal program 
like minicom or the barebone http://www.lassitu.de/software/sc/ .

Then you should check if the reader responds to the setting of 9600 8N1.

If the reader is in ASCII mode you can "talk" to the device by typing 
some simple commands like:
v - print Firmware version
s - select/activate a TAG and print it Header
If the device is already in continuous read mode you can stop that with ".".
